Why Paris in July?
Summer's here and if you're headed for Paris, be sure to watch this fashion capital with people are out and about, roaming the streets with their shades and quenching their thirst with a glass of beer or wine to welcome the summer. Either a visit to Notre Dame de Paris or Louvre Museum; people are basking in happiness, frolicking under the sun at the parks. With summer sales happening, it makes even more sense to splurge in Paris; luxury brands from Louis Vuitton to Yves Saint Laurent or vintage shopping at the 3rd and 4th arrondissements. You name it, they have it.
If you're a fan of French films, Paris Festival of Cinema might interest you. A week long film festival for all kinds of audiences and Japan is this year's highlight with over 100 films. As for Amazing Race's fans, you might want to participate in this year's The Great Paris Treasure Hunt, it's a free event open to all and an unusual way to explore the City of Light. If you're a party lover, Bal des Pompiers – Fireman's Ball in Paris will probably excite you - on the 13th and 14th of July, the firehouses open their doors to the public and discos abound for the Fireman's Ball to honour and celebrate the Pompiers of Paris. While most firehouses are free to enter, some will charge a cover fee for entry to join the party!
And if there is one event you can't miss out in July, it got to be Bastille Day which falls on the 14th. On this very day, France celebrates its national holiday with a parade down the Champs Elysées in the morning and a fantastic fireworks display near the Eiffel Tower with all arranged music in the evening. Lastly, for sports lovers, Tour de France 2011 is happening on the 25th - the world's toughest sporting event sprints to the finishing line on the Champs Elysées as the riders make their final bid to win a stage.
