Now that the Hungry Ghost Festival is over, it is time to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival!

Also known as Mooncake or Lantern Festival, it is a Chinese celebration that marks the end of a harvest season. On the actual day which falls on 12 Sept this year, families and friends will gather under the moonlit sky and enjoy mooncakes - a traditional Chinese pastry filled with lotus seed paste and stuffed with a salted duck egg yolk, that goes well with a pot of Chinese tea. Today, it has evolved into an array of fillings and flavours, from snowskin mooncakes with truffles to new exotic flavors. Another essential festive treats would be pomelos - a sweet honey taste fruit that complements the richness of mooncakes and its auspicious name also sounds like the word "blessing" in Chinese.

There's no better way to soak in the festivities and celebrations than in Chinatown. Key highlights of the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival includes the Official Street Light-Up and Opening Ceremony that transforms Chinatown into a sea of colourful decorations, lanterns and mesmerising light displays, vibrant and busting Festive Street Bazaar, Nightly Stage Shows throughout the month long festive celebrations and Mass Lantern Walk on 10 Sept 2011.
If you are captivated by the beauty of the bright lanterns display, make your way down to the Lantern Festival at Chinese Garden that plays host to The World of Legends. A spectacular display of large lanterns and props, the garden of light will come alive wih cultural stage performances, traditional food stalls and carnival games.
All in all, Mid-Autumn Festival is an important occasion celebrated by the Chinese worldwide. It is a time to celebrate the full moon which symbolises abundance, harmony and prosperity.
